This book is a must have for writers who need to cover police procedures howdujit their stories but have only experienced these procedures through the eyes of Hollywood.
As far as the author’s style, it’s well-written, but I wish Lofland had added more anecdotes, because what there were of them were great, but too few and far between.
While this book is a great start as far as research, it shouldn’t be anyone’s only source.

Procedures may be exaggerated because authors have to give readers something exciting to read. In this book he explains the differences between common phrases, such as “crime scene” and “scene of the crime”, “homicide”, “murder”, and “manslaughter”.
